于是，照顾宠物的责任就外包给了保姆，让保姆去遛狗。很多保姆并不爱狗，甚至对宠物没有任何概念，只是感觉在日常的家务活之外又多了一项工作，而自己做这项工作却没有得到额外的收入。既然如此，那么就一定要把这项工作的消耗降到最低，否则自己不划算。结果就是有些保姆把狗带到楼下去，拴在栏杆或者树下，自己在一边刷手机或者和其他保姆闲聊。你不喜欢遛狗，保姆也是，这就是人性。
对人性，尤其是对自己的人性没有充分认知前，我想一个人最好不要养任何宠物，连多肉最好也别养。「养」这个词太过于迷惑性，仅只是让宠物活着，这是养。养育孩子一般养育一只宠物，这也是养。
看很多人的婚姻，看很多人的孩子，就会知道一个人对自己的人性没有充分认知前，就开始养育一个生命是一件多么可怕的事情。他们不单无法养育谁，反而需要他人的生命来滋养自己，也许终其一生也未能自我的完全发育。孩子还会长大，还会反击，还会逃走，但为什么要难为那些没法说话的哑巴畜生呢？
如果想要养一只宠物，做决定不应该是冲动，而是思考和自省：我是个什么人，我要这只宠物来做什么，我生活因此会有什么改变，我是否愿意为此支付多大的代价？
即便这一切都没有发生，最起码还应该做一件事：认真诚实地面对事物的两面，然后等同地接受宠物的两面。这件事不是一条只有正面，只有阳光，只有快乐的广告，而是一杯欢喜和烦恼各占一半的饮料。你有多喜欢宠物的可爱，喜欢它们的美好，那么你也要准备好面对等同分量的烦恼、愤怒。这两样都会到来，你没得选，要就全都要，不要就全不要。
如果你说，好吧，我知道了，事情也许不像我想象的那么美好，但我依然想要养一只宠物，即便会带来那么多麻烦和困扰我也在所不惜，因为生活从来都是这样，世界上没有一件事只有阳光的一面，对此我早就已经接受---那么，你的确可以养一只宠物。因为你可能迟早都会想明白一句话：
虽然你不是完美的宠物，但我也远不是一个完美的主人，甚至都不是一个完美的人，大家共同努力，彼此适应，一起凑合着相互陪伴一段时光吧。
最后，我想多说一点我关于人性的认知：认为自己是个完美的人，因此理应拥有各种完美的东西，这样的心态会制造出巨大的麻烦。在宠物上如此，在生活的其他方面同样如此。
