Deep Reflection on Layoffs at Domestic Internet Giants
Deep Reflection on Layoffs at Domestic Internet Giants
 ### meng shao@shao__meng

One Sentence Summary
The author questions why large domestic tech companies consistently target R&D positions during layoffs, pondering the true logic behind demand fulfillment in the AI era.
Summary
The author analyzes recent layoff news from major domestic internet companies, questioning the authenticity of the layoff information (Wuhan's "complete layoff" actually involved few people, and the "front-end layoff" was actually a transition to full-stack roles). The core question raised is: why are R&D positions being cut instead of marketing, business, or product teams? The author reflects that with increasingly capable AI, there was an expectation that demands could be fulfilled more quickly, and the creative ideas from business and product could finally be realized. Yet R&D roles are the first to be cut, which reveals a possible truth—those original demands that couldn't be completed may not have been worth doing in the first place. The tweet ends with a rhetorical question that provokes deeper reflection on the current state of the industry.
