事故发生后，内蒙古自治区党委、政府迅速作出安排，全力组织搜救。应急管理部、国家市场监督管理总局派员赴现场指导救援处置工作。现场救援累计投入1300余人、应急和救护车辆70余辆，全力开展现场搜救工作。
报告指出了事故发生单位包钢板材厂、内蒙古包钢钢联股份有限公司、包头钢铁（集团）有限责任公司，事故相关单位北京京诚科林环保科技有限公司、鞍山华信重工机械有限公司、内蒙古自治区特种设备检验研究院包头分院，以及监管部门、地方党委政府存在的主要问题。
